Sun Ke: Innovating Special Functional Products
It's often said that today's "post-90s" generation is like wandering swordsman, setting out on the journey of life. However, the protagonist of today's story, entrepreneur Sun Ke, is an exception. Sun Ke completed his undergraduate and master's studies at Nanjing Tech University and began his journey in the polyol industry.
He found that ordinary monomer polyols had many limitations in various applications, failing to meet the special requirements of different industries and clients.
Since 2013, Sun Ke has been customizing the development of polyols to meet specific application demands, researching the formation of polyol "alloys" by combining different monomer polyols, endowing them with the special functionality required by their products.
After participating in various entrepreneurship competitions sponsored by the Communist Youth League, Sun Ke's entrepreneurial path became smoother. He won the gold prize in the 2016 National "Chuangqingchun" University Student Entrepreneurship Competition, the first place in the Growth Group of the 2018 "Chuangqingchun" Jiangsu Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the first prize in the 2018 "Zhihui Wuzhong" Youth Maker Competition. The Communist Youth League has been accompanying him courageously on the road of entrepreneurship.
In 2014, his entrepreneurial plan won the gold prize in the Jiangsu Province College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition. In 2015, the Polyol "Alloy" project won the special prize for excellent entrepreneurship projects for young college students in Nanjing. During his time as a graduate student, he co-founded Nanjing Cornigs Company with Nanjing Zijin.
From 2015 to 2016, functional polyol products of different specifications were successfully developed one after another. Sun Ke spent two and a half years ensuring that his products successfully passed the entire process of quality verification from small-scale trials to large-scale production by top multinational companies. They successfully entered the global supply chain of customers, achieving breakthroughs in both functional polyol product development and customer numbers. In just two and a half years, Nanjing Cornigs Company grew into one of the largest plant-based polyol suppliers in the Yangtze River Delta. Last year, the company's sales revenue reached 68.73 million yuan (including tax), and it has accumulated many well-known customers in fields such as new materials, biology, medicine, energy, and food.
With successful entrepreneurial experience, Sun Ke returned to his hometown after graduating with a master's degree in August and founded Suzhou Cornigs Polyol Co., Ltd. Based in Suzhou, Sun Ke's team will closely follow the trend of industrial upgrading, develop innovative specification functional polyol products, achieve industrialization of functional polyols on a large scale, and promote the large-scale innovative application of functional polyols.
Looking back on this entrepreneurial journey, Sun Ke said, "With the companionship of the Communist Youth League, my entrepreneurial journey has been smooth all the way. 'Chuangqingchun' has provided a platform for young entrepreneurs to exercise and showcase themselves. I wish the 2018 National 'Chuangqingchun' Competition a complete success!"
Tuantuan: What was the original intention of starting a business?
Sun Ke: At first, I had some ideas about the pain points in the market. In the subsequent practical applications, I found that my solution was feasible, so I started my own business.
Tuantuan: Was entrepreneurship always your plan?
Sun Ke: Yes, I have always wanted to start a business because I feel that having my own career is more challenging and liberating. For this reason, I also gave up the opportunity to be selected as a talent reserve when I graduated.
Tuantuan: Do you have any advice for college students starting a business?
Sun Ke: In the face of market competition, attention should be paid to the protection of intellectual property rights. During the entrepreneurial process, more consideration should be given to risks such as funding. That's my advice.
